How to Resize Images for Social Media and the Web
A quick guide to image dimensions, why they matter, and how this free tool helps you get the right size every time.
How to Use the Image Resizer
- Upload your image: Drag and drop your photo into the upload area or click to browse. We support JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and more.
- Pick a size: Choose a one-click social media preset (like YouTube Thumbnail or Instagram Post) or type in your exact Custom dimensions.
- Select Resize or Crop:
- Resize: Scales the image to your exact dimensions. Choose "Fit" to add a beautiful blurred, white, or black background.
- Crop: Lets you drag and select the exact portion of the image you want to keep.
- Adjust settings: Toggle the Black & White filter, or check "Target max size" to automatically compress the image to an exact file size limit (e.g. 200 KB).
- Download: Click "Resize & Download" to instantly process and save your optimized image.
Every social media platform has its own recommended image dimensions. Using the wrong size means your photo can be auto-cropped, stretched, or displayed at lower quality. Resizing before uploading gives you full control over how your image looks.

Advanced features
Fit with Blurred Backgrounds: If you are resizing a portrait image into a landscape format (or vice-versa), the tool's "Fit" mode will add borders to prevent cropping. You can set this border to a modern blurred background, which uses a zoomed-in, heavily blurred version of your image for a premium look.
Target File Size Auto-compressor: Many websites have strict maximum upload limits (e.g., 250 KB). Instead of guessing with a quality slider, simply type your target size into the tool. It runs a lightning-fast background calculation to find the exact highest quality setting that fits your limit.
Output formats explained
JPG is ideal for photographs and produces small files. PNG preserves sharp edges and supports transparency, but files are larger. WebP offers a modern compromise with smaller files at good quality, and is supported by all major browsers.
Privacy and speed
This tool processes everything inside your web browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded to any server. Processing is instant because there is no network transfer, and the tool works offline once the page is loaded.
